Advanced German: This course will suit people who have recently completed German Level 8, or who consider themselves to be confident speakers of German, able to function in a variety of situations but wishing to improve their conversational abilities and grammatical competence. This course corresponds to the B2/C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Modern Languages (CEFR)*.
Term duration: 10 x weekly 2-hour classes, Tuesday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm
Note that the class is driven by the interests of the group. The communicative themes covered in this class will change each term but will include:
Giving presentations on chosen topics
Discussing current affairs and international topics
Expressing one's opinion on a variety of social, political, technological and environmental issues
Discussing art and culture (eg. music, paintings, films)
Reading, analysing and discussing literature from German-speaking countries
Acquiring current colloquial expressions and saying
Grammar:
Consolidating and understanding existing knowledge, including on modal particles, verbs, nouns and adjectives with prepositions, reported speech, two-part sentences with connectors, future in the pass, and the passive.
All four skills – listening comprehension, reading, speaking and writing – are practised
