UEA Symphony Orchestra and Choir concert: The New and Eternal - Thursday 20 November 2025DescriptionUEA Symphony Orchestra and Choir warmly invite you to join them for their autumn concert ‘The New and Eternal’, on Thursday 20th November 2025 at 7:30pm at The Cathedral of St John the Baptist (Unthank Road, Norwich, NR2 2PA). Under the direction of the new UEA Director of Music, Bjorn Bantock, and UEA Choir Director Tom Primrose, the orchestra and choir will perform a programme of dramatic orchestral works and soaring sacred choral music. The concert will open with Modest Mussorgsky’s Night on Bare Mountain (Rimsky-Korsakov revision), a vivid, high-energy depiction of a witches’ sabbath. Edward Elgar’s Serenade for Strings offers contrast with its lyrical warmth, followed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s passionate Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. The second half shifts to sacred works, beginning with Heinrich Schütz’s radiant Cantate Domino. Anton Bruckner’s Gloria and Credo from Mass No. 2 bring majestic choral depth, culminating in two of Schütz’s jubilant psalms—Jauchzet dem Herren and Alleluja! Lobet den Herren—filled with rich polyphony and celebratory spirit.
