Drama Studio Auditorium

UEA Logo

The UEA Drama Studio is a flexible theatre space right in the heart of campus. The Studio Main Space is our premier performance space: seating up to 200 and stocked with the latest technical theatre equipment.

As well as being the home of the UEA Drama degree programmes, the Studio is the venue for theatre, comedy, musicals and live literature at UEA.

Both the Studio Auditorium and the Rehearsal Room venues are ground access, and seating arrangements for wheelchairs or other mobility requirements can be easily made – please inform the Studio by contacting LDC.DramaStudio@uea.ac.uk ahead of your visit.

If you require support of a companion to access our venue, please let us know at the same address when booking a ticket and a complimentary ticket will be arranged.

An analogue induction loop is fitted within the Studio Auditorium (but not the Rehearsal Room). If you have a digital hearing aid, please check with your audiologist that your aid is loop-enabled for use at the theatre.

Registered assistance dogs are welcome and can be taken into the Studio Auditorium or the Rehearsal Room. Please inform the Studio by emailing LDC.DramaStudio@uea.ac.uk when booking your ticket. For the performance, a Steward will direct you to an appropriate seat and inform you of anything in the show that could affect you dog’s comfort. We regret we cannot offer that guide dogs be left in the care of front-of-house staff. Please be aware, this does not extend to emotional support animals, which cannot enter the auditoria.

The Good Person of Szechwan (Kushner)

The Good Person of Szechwan (Kushner)

Description

The Good Person of Szechwan (Kushner)
by Bertolt Brecht. Translated by Tony Kushner. Edited by Charlotte Ryland

Fine Print theatre, in association with the University of East Anglia are proud to announce our ‘Business is Business’ season: two fantastic plays in repertoire, looking at the price of success. Can we “have it all”? A fantasia about the beginning and, maybe, the end of Europe’s neoliberal experiment..

First, we travel back to the 1980s to the outset of Thatcher-led Britain in Caryl Churchill’s iconic ‘Top Girls’. Marlene is a successful business-woman managing Top Girls Recruitment Agency, but what sacrifices did she have to make to get there?

Then, in a gripping reimagining of Bertolt Brecht’s ‘The Good Person of Szechwan’; the good natured Shen Te goes from penniless prostitute to powerful business magnate – in a capitalist society, with the lure of profits and in the shadow of threatened conflict, how does anyone stay “good”?

These two uncannily prescient texts speak to each other and to our times now, more than ever!
