Course Description

Level 4 Classes: This course is suitable for people who already had over 50 hours of classes, can communicate information about themselves and routine tasks, engage in simple conversations about everyday activities and describe events in the past perfect. By the end of the course, you will improve your communication skills, understand better spoken and written language and learn how to use the past imperfect and some reflexive verbs. The course can be adjusted to the interests and learning speed of the students.

Term duration: 10 x weekly 2-hour classes, Tuesday evenings, 6:15pm - 8:15pm. 

 

Key Language and Grammar

Revision of information exchange: understand and give information about people, places and activities.

e.g. Eu gosto de fazer caminhadas, principalmente ao pé do mar, e costumo jantar fora no fim de semana.

Revision of positions and directions: talk about a position or location, ask for or provide directions.

e.g. O banco fica em frente à estação; para lá chegar é preciso ir em frente e virar à direita. 

Describe a place: describe a city, a landscape, a house or a room. 

e.g. O quarto da Rute tem armários brancos à esquerda e uma cama azul à direita.

Real news and blog articles: read and understand written texts about current affairs.

e.g. A crise da habitação e o desemprego são problemas que afectam os jovens portugueses.

Video and radio: improve understanding of the spoken language in the media.

e.g. Neste programa vamos falar do mercado do Bolhão, no Porto.

Adjectives: how to express variations in the degree of adjectives and interests.

e.g. O Porto é mais bonito que Lisboa, mas Lisboa é maior que o Porto.

Past imperfect: describing the context in the past.

e.g. No verão, eu ia muitas vezes à praia, mas a água do mar era muito fria.

Communication in the past tense: asking and saying what has happened.

e.g. Viste aquele filme ontem à noite? Sim, vi-o.

Reflexive verbs: learn about reflexive verbs and understand when and how to use them.

e.g. Tenho de ir ao médico porque não me sinto bem; sinto-me doente.

Problem resolution: where to go or who to contact for everyday issues.

e.g. Vou fazer uma reclamação porque a comida do restaurante não estava boa.
