Course Description

Level 2 Classes: This course is suitable for people who already had 20-30 hours of classes, or who know some basic grammar and pronunciation, and would like to use it for holiday, work or family-related purposes. You will develop your communication skills, and by the end of this course you will be able to better communicate about family, friends, simple routine tasks and describe your immediate environment. You will also start to learn how to use the past tense. The course can be adjusted to the interests and learning speed of the students.

Term duration: 9 x weekly classes, Monday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:30pm.

There will be no class on Mon 27 October. Your last class will finish at 8:15pm

 

Key Language

Revision of information exchange: greet people, ask and give personal information, details of family and friends, phone numbers, etc.

e.g. O Zé Pedro é casado tem sessenta e seis anos.

Communication: practicing asking questions and giving answers

e.g. A que horas abre o Museu? O Museu abre às dez da manhã.

How to get to places: understand and use different ways to express travel modes and destinations

e.g. Eu vou para Lisboa no autocarro das 8:45.

Describing people and places: understand and give information about people and places.

e.g. O restaurante Camarão serve marisco; tem comida muito boa e barata.

Talking about preferences and activities: describing your preferences and routine activities.

e.g. Eu gosto de fazer caminhadas; eu costumo jantar fora no fim de semana.

Finding the way: talk about a location, ask for or provide directions.

e.g. O banco fica ao lado do restaurante Mar Azul.

Past tense: the basics of telling a story

e.g. Quando eu tinha 5 anos, fui à praia pela primeira vez.
