Level 1 Classes: this course is suitable for people with no prior knowledge of the language, who would like to use it for holiday, work-related purposes and/or to communicate with relatives. By the end of the course, you will be able to formulate simple sentences in the present in a conversational setting and understand some topics in written and spoken language at a basic level. The course material is adjusted to the interests and speed of the learners.
Term duration: 9x weekly, Monday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:30pm

Key Language and Grammar
Alphabet and difficult sounds: getting to know the basics of Portuguese pronunciation
e.g. O Rui Rodrigues gosta de champanhe e limões.
Meeting and greeting people: greet people, ask and give personal information (name, nationality, occupation, languages spoken, residence), and details of family and friends.
e.g. O meu nome é John, sou casado e tenho três filhos. Using numbers: quantities, prices, age, telephone numbers. e.g. Eu tenho noventa e cinco anos.
Days of the week, months, time and other useful expressions.
e.g. São dez para as duas da tarde.
Eating out: order food and drink, ask for and pay the bill.
e.g. Eu queria um bitoque, por favor. Quanto custa?
Basic information: ask and give basic information about yourself in the present.
e.g. Estou na praia com a minha irmã e está calor.
