Course Description

Level 8 Classes: This course is a continuation of Level 7 and is for students who have taken around 140 hours of teaching, are at mid-beginner level Japanese and would like to consolidate their understanding of grammar whilst focusing on how to talk about topics relevant to daily life.  All four skills (reading, writing in kana and some simple kanji, speaking and listening) are practised with a greater emphasis on conversational skills. By the end of the course, you will be able to formulate sentences to describe more varied and complex situations and express your opinions and intentions, using the appropriate register (formality/informality).

Term schedule: 10x weekly classes, Wednesday evenings, 18:15  - 20:15

Key Language  (Subject to change)

ü  Expressing volition: ‘I am thinking of …’ 「～う／ようと　思(おも)っています」

e.g. 春休(はるやす)みに　旅行(りょこう)に　行こうと　思(おも)っています。　

ü  Nominalising sentences　「～の」

e.g. やきゅうを　見(み)るのは　楽(たの)しいです。

ü  ‘It sometimes happens that….’　「～ことも　あります」

e.g. たいてい　歩(ある)いて　行(い)きますが、バスで　行(い)くことも　あります。

ü  ‘When’ (3)    

e.g. ６時(じ)に　なったら、パーテイ―を　始(はじ)めます。

ü  ‘Plan to’    「～よてい」

e.g. 大学(だいがく)を　そつぎょうしたら、日本(にほん)に　行(い)く　よていです。

ü  Transitive and intransitive verbs

e.g. （私(わたし)は）ドアを　開(あ)けます。

          ドアが　開(あ)きます。

ü  Stating there is a possibility　「～かも　しれません」

       e.g. あしたは　大雨(おおあめ)が　ふるかもしれません。

ü  Showing the completion of an action or event 　「～て　しまいます」

e.g. 週末(しゅうまつ)に　本(ほん)を　ぜんぶ　読(よ)んでしまいました。

ü  Reading and writing some basic kanji
