Course Description

Level 8 Classes: This course will suit people who have recently completed Level 7 or who can understand the main point of oral/written standard French on a variety of familiar topics, and can deal with most situations likely to arise when traveling abroad. This course will start tackling more abstract topics, and is aimed at people who wish to communicate their thoughts and opinions confidently and in a structured way. All the documents studied in class will be authentic (as opposed to created for learners).  

In Level 8, we work at the B2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)*. 

Term duration: 10 x weekly classes, Tuesday evenings, 6:15pm-8:30pm 

No class on Tue 26 May. Your final class will finish at 8:30pm. 

Key Language

Communicative themes may cover: 

  • Discussing the faults and the merits of different types of social media, screens and technology. 

  • Understanding documents about and making suggestions on ways to build a greener society. 

  • Reacting to data and documents about immigration and displacement  

  • Expressing and sustaining one’s opinion on tourism and responsible travelling. 

  • Reading and discussing a novel or short story. 

Key grammatical points covered include:  

  • The subjunctive (3) revision –  

  • Pronominal verbs. E.g., Me la cavo bene con la matematica 

  • Suffixes (alterations of nouns) - ino, etto, one, accio. E.g., Che ventaccio che tira oggi! 

  • Logical links (purpose, hypothesis, condition, opposition, concession…). E.g. Ha studiato con l’obiettivo di prendere un diploma. 

  • Infinitives and past infinitives.  E.g. Ha detto di non avere chiuso la porta. 

 CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated Italian exam for this level. If you would like to take an external Italian exam, please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate.
