Course Description

Level 4 Classes: This course suits people who have recently completed Level 3 or have acquired a level of language which means they can, for example, communicate simply about themselves and about a few past experiences, can compare options and express simple future plans (see level 3 key communicative and grammatical points for more detail). In this level, you will develop your confidence to be able to tackle more situations when abroad or when in conversation with an Italian speaker

In Level 4, we work at the A2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)*.

Term duration: 10x weekly classes, Wednesday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm

Key Language

Communicative themes may cover:

  • Talking or writing about how things used to be, and memories.

  • Formulating a response to the plot of a book or film/TV-show.

  • Talking about celebrations, traditions, national and regional festivals in Italy.

  • Culinary preferences and requirements

  • Describing/asking details about one’s work, careers and studies.

  • Understanding/communicating about some current events.

 Key grammatical points covered include:

  • Simple present and future tenses revision

  • The imperfect tense. E.g. Quando ero piccolo, andavo a scuola.

  • The imperfect and passato prossimo compared. E.g. Quando ero in vacanza, ho visitato Firenze.

  • If clauses (0 and 1 types). E.g. Se vieni, usciamo insieme / Se verrai, usciremo insieme.

  • Relative pronouns (preposition + cui). E.g. Il libro di cui ti ho parlato è questo.

  • Gerunds in compound structures with stare. E.g. Sto studiando per l’esame.

CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated Italian exam for this level. If you would like to take an external Italian exam, please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate
