Course Description

Level 2 Classes: This course is suitable for people who are comfortable with what is covered in Level 1 (such as: giving basic personal information about yourself, being able to use regular and very common verbs at the present tense). By the end of this class, you should be able to communicate simple, basic needs, use familiar everyday expressions and interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and is prepared to help.

In Level 2, we work at the A1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)*.

Term duration - 10 x weekly classes, Thursday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm

Communicative themes may include:

  • Shopping: Buying clothes, talking or writing about styles, materials, colours

  • Inviting friends out: accepting and refusing invitations

  • Weather: Asking and talking about the weather, weather forecasts.

  • Routine: talking about one’s habits

  • Hobbies: talking about what one does in their free time

  • Travelling and planning a day in Italy: Asking for the transport timetable, plan activities and places to visit on a day and how to do it.

  • Time: Telling and understanding the time

Key grammatical points covered may include:

  • Present tense 2 (with irregular verbs). E.g. Vado a casa stasera.

  • Reflexive verbs . E.g. Di solito mi sveglio tardi

  • Polite forms of request: Vorrei vedere quel vestito rosso

  • Idiomatic form for suggestions: Ti va di andare al cinema?

  • Demonstrative adjectives. E.g. Preferisco questa maglia.

  • Locating in time and space (adverbs, prepositions). E.g. A che ora?

  • Imperative mode (do this, buy that…). E.g.   Gira a destra; gira a sinistra

  • Direct object pronouns (lo, la, li, le). E.g. Lo compro.

  • Uses of piacere and indirect object pronouns. E.g. Mi piace molto la pizza.

CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated Italian exam for this level. If you would like to take an external Italian exam, please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate
