Course Description

 

Level 3 Classes: This course is suitable for people who feel comfortable with what is covered in Levels 1 and 2. You will already be able to communicate simple, basic needs, use familiar everyday expressions and talk in a very simple way about yourself, using the present tense. By the end of this course, you will be able to talk and write about what you do every day, and what you used to do.    

In Level 3 we work at the A1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)*. 

Term duration 10 x weekly classes, Monday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:30pm

No class on Mon 4 May and Mon 25 May. Your final class will finish at 8:15pm.

Communicative themes may cover: 

• Expressing oneself and understanding others when talking about everyday tasks and leisure activities 

• Discussing likes/dislikes in various contexts (during a meal, when on vacation etc.) 

• Describing homes and comparing accommodations 

• Expressing a simple opinion about work-life balance 

• Talking about daily routines in the past 

• Requesting and providing simple descriptions of dishes and describing special dietary needs 

• Reading simple recipes (ingredients and method of cooking/baking) 

 

Key grammatical points may include: 

• Comparatives: e.g. Το φόρεμά μου είναι μικρότερο από το δικό σου (My dress is smaller than yours) 

• Past continuous tense: e.g. Όταν ήμουν στην Ελλάδα πέρυσι το καλοκαίρι, πήγαινα στην παραλία κάθε μέρα (When I was in Greece last summer, I was going to the beach every day) 

• Adjectives: e.g. Δε θέλω πολλή ζάχαρη στον καφέ μου (I don't want a lot of sugar in my coffee) 

• Continuous imperative mode: e.g. Πάντα πίνε νερό το πρωί (Always drink water in the morning) 

• The use of genitive case (indirect object): e.g. Ο Γιάννης μου δάνεισε το αυτοκίνητό του (John lent me his car) 

• Subordinate noun clause (syntax): e.g. Νομίζω ότι η δουλειά μου δεν είναι πιο σημαντική από την οικογένειά μου (I think that my job is not more important than my family) 

CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated Greek exam for this level. If you would like to take an external Greek exam, please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate
