Course Description

Level 7 Classes: This course will suit people who have recently completed Level 6 and can start to formulate and briefly justify opinions on familiar topics. In this class, you will start to discuss more complex topics (for example, related to politics) and will be given further tools to express your opinion and sustain it simply but effectively. In Level 7, we work at the B1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)*.

Term duration: 10 x weekly 2-hour classes, Thursday evening, 6:15pm to 8:15pm

Communicative themes may cover:

·      Being able to talk and write about self-image and self-development in the 21st century.

·      Expressing one’s views on the media and the way news is delivered.

·      Discovering more francophone countries and Francophonie as a concept

·      Reacting to different art forms and cultural items (music, paintings, films…).

·      Discussing the evolution of the sports industry, including the creation of sports opportunities and related issues.

Key grammatical points covered may include:

·      Mixing all past tenses. E.g. Elle sortait quand il a commencé à pleuvoir. Elle avait oublié son parapluie.

·      The subjunctive (3) - hopes, doubt. E.g. Je souhaite qu’il réussisse.

·      Y/en pronouns – mixing all complement pronouns. E.g. Je lui ai annoncé la nouvelle. J’y avais beaucoup réfléchi j’en ai finalement parlé.

·      Hypothetical sentences and various tenses. E.g. Elle aurait voté si elle avait su le résultat.

·      Expressing causes and consequences E.g. Étant donné que vous ne serez pas là, je vais changer mes projets.

*The CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated DELF exam (Diplôme en Language Française) for this level. If you would like to take the DELF (there is an exam centre in Cambridge), please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate.
