French Level 5

Course Description

Level 5 Classes: This course suits people who have recently completed Level 4,  or those who already have a solid foundation in French. It will allow them to communicate quite confidently about themselves, their environment, their past, and their future plans. This level will help you communicate with greater confidence about topics that go beyond your immediate environment, and to formulate your opinion on certain topics. 

In Level 5, we will work at the B1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*). 

Term duration: 10 x weekly classes, Tuesday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm. 

Communicative themes may cover:

·        Understanding (im)politeness and related cultural differences.

·        Understanding documents about current and historical events.

·        Expressing one’s feelings about music, films, and talking about festivals.

·        Talking/writing about urban issues and developments.

·        Accommodation: discussing new trends such as intergenerational living. 

 

Key grammatical points covered may include:

·        Revisions from level 4

·        The pluperfect. E.g. J’étais fatigué hier. Je n’avais pas dormi la nuit d’avant.

·        The passive voice. E.g. Le tableau a été volé.

·        The subjunctive (1) – feelings and obligation. E.g. J’ai peur qu’il ne vienne pas.

·        Direct and indirect complement pronouns. E.g. Je lui ai envoyé un cadeau. Je l’ai envoyé jeudi.

If you would like to take the DELF (there is an exam centre in Cambridge), please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate
