The Way of the World![]() DescriptionThe Way of the WorldBy William Congreve
“filth, smut and scandalous entertainment”... has theatre changed? William Congreve’s The Way of the World, first performed in 1700, scandalised theatregoers by focusing on sexual intrigue and money-chasing. Equally controversial was women's first appearance in theatre, portrayed in April De Angelis’s Playhouse Creatures, which follows the first female acting troupe of the Restoration period as they face new careers and new dangers.
