Description

Led by Steve Wiseman, this course offers a practical introduction to fundraising in the global development and non-profit space, drawing on decades of experience.

It explores how organisations can align funding opportunities with their mission and values, using both emotional and strategic approaches. Participants will learn methods ranging from mass appeals and community fundraising to trust funding and sponsorships. Through case studies and exercises, learners will build skills in identifying funders, crafting effective strategies, and ensuring accountability.

With international aid budgets shrinking, NGOs and charities must diversify income to sustain their work. This course equips participants—whether new to fundraising or seeking a refresh—with a clear framework to grow sustainable income and strengthen impact locally and globally.

DEV Professional Skills Workshops

DEV Professional Skills Workshops

The School of Global Development (DEV) offers undergraduate and postgraduate students the chance to take part in a variety of hands-on workshops designed to build the practical skills expected of today’s development professionals.

These short, intensive sessions (1–3 days) go beyond your coursework, giving you:

  • Practical, real-world skills
  • A stronger CV and enhanced employability
  • Experience that sets you apart in the job market

The workshops are optional and non-assessed, but provide a perfect opportunity to invest in your future.

Before signing up, make sure you can manage your coursework and commitments. If in doubt, talk to your course convenor for advice.

Cost

A small fee of £10 per day, per course helps cover materials, equipment, and external trainers. This also ensures that places go to genuinely committed students. This is a fraction of the cost of what these courses would cost normally.

Limited Places & Waiting List

Spaces are capped to keep workshops interactive and effective. If a course is full, you’ll be placed on a waiting list and offered a spot if one becomes available.
