Course Description

 

Level 1 Classes: This course is suitable for people with no prior knowledge of the language, who would like to use it for holiday and/or work-related purposes. By the end of this class you will obtain the linguistic competence necessary to understand and use common, everyday expressions and simple sentences in order to address immediate needs.

 

Term duration: 10 x 2 hour weekly classes, Monday evenings, 18:15 - 20:15. 

Key Language

Exchange of information: Greet people, ask and give personal information, details of family and friends, say where you live and where you are from, ask for a phone number and give your own, talk about marital status, express and describe possession, describe people’s appearance and character…
e.g. Estoy casada, trabajo en Londres, tengo 2 hijos y me encanta hacer deporte en mi tiempo libre. 

Communicate in some everyday life situations: order food and drink, ask for items in a supermarket or grocery, ask and talk about weight, quality, colour and sizes, understand prices, make questions (how much), talk about simple medical conditions…
e.g. Me duele la espalda todos los días. ¿Qué puedo hacer?

Intercultural aspects: Develop understanding of some intercultural aspects of the Spanish speaking world in contrast with your own.
e.g. El desierto de Atacama es el lugar más seco del mundo y está en Chile. 

Language skills: Read, understand and find relevant information from basic written texts in Spanish, write simple texts in Spanish, listen to simple conversations based on different real situations.
e.g. Mi comida favorita es el gazpacho, que es una sopa de tomate muy fría.  

Using numbers: Quantities, prices, telephone numbers.
e.g. Mi número de teléfono es el 07787…
