Level 4 Classes:This course suits people who have recently completed Level 3 or have acquired language skills which encompass communicative themes and grammatical pointscovered in Level 3. In Level 4, you will gain confidence in speaking in a variety of communicative situations, includinggivinga voluntarypresentation in front of the class on a topic of your choice. This is not compulsory.
In Level 4, we work at the A2 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*).
Term duration 10 x weekly 2-hour class, Thursday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm

Geography and culture of some German-speaking countries (e.g. Germany, Austria, Switzerland)
German literature – fairy tale
Current events
Describing people
Travel – Railway station, Lost and Found Office
At the department store
Feature film screening and subsequent discussion
Key grammatical points covered include:
Revision of complex sentences and sentence connectors
Consolidation of word order and sentence structure
Revision of noun cases
Revision of the Perfekt spoken past tense
Consolidation and expansionoftheImperfekt (written) pasttense – e.g. er hatte, du warst, wir konnten, sie ging, ich machte, etc.
Declensionofadjectivesbeforenouns – e.g. Das ist ein großes Auto. Du hast einen schönenHund.
Consolidation of Subjunctive Konjunktiv II for wishes, polite requests, and for makingsuggestions – e.g. Du könntestmich morgen anrufen.
*CEFR levels indicated on our level descriptors are not a guarantee that you can take the associated German exam for this level. If you would like to take an external German exam, for instance the Goethe-Zertifikat A2(there is an exam centre in London), please speak to your tutor to discuss what they think would be most appropriate.
