Level 7 Classes:This course will suit people who can quite confidently communicate about themselves, their environment, past and future plans, and can start to formulate and briefly justify opinions on familiar topics. In this class, you will start to discuss more complex topics (for example, related to social issues) and will be given further tools to express your opinion and sustain it simply but effectively. This level covers the third part of the B1 level of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*).
Term duration10 x weekly 2-hour classes, Monday evenings, 6:15pm - 8:15pm.
Communicative themes may cover:
·Handling exchanges about administrative aspects of life (housing, health…)
·Talking and writing about work, wellbeing and inequalities
·Expressing one’s views on the media and the way news are delivered
·Reacting to different art forms and cultural items(music, paintings, films…)
·Understanding and being able to express oneself about specific current affairs, British culture and traditions.
Key grammatical points covered may include:
·Combining preterit and present perfect (1). E.g. I’d been waiting for three hours when the doctor called.
·Hypothetic structures. E.g. I would do it if I could.
·The passive voice (1). E.g. A decision was finally made.
·Gerunds and infinitives.E.g. Finding his office is difficult.
·Relative clauses with prepositions. E.g. It’s the person I had a disagreement with.
·Phrasal verbs. E.g. to throw away, to hang out…
