Level 1 Classes: This course is suitable for people with no prior knowledge of the language, who would like to begin to communicate with a French speaker, particularly in a holiday context. By the end of the course, you will be able to formulate simple statements and questions in an everyday setting and understand the most basic written and spoken language.
Term duration: 10 x weekly 2-hour classes, Wednesday evenings, 6:15pm to 8:15pm.
Key Language
Alphabet and numbers: Learning how to pronounce the French alphabet and to count to 999,999. e.g. Neuf-cent-quatre-vingt-dix-neuf-mille-neuf-cent-quatre-vingt-dix-neuf
Personal Information: Greeting people, introducing yourself and your family and friends, where you live, where you are from, work, nationality and languages spoken. Eliciting similar information from a French speaker. e.g. Bonjour, je m’appelle … Voici mon copain. Il vient du Danemark
Food: Shopping for food, saying what you like and need, understanding a recipe, making sense of a menu to order food and drink in a café or restaurant. e.g. Il me faut du sucre, de la crème et des fraises. Je prends un diabolomenthe
Social: Inviting someone for a meal to go out. Accepting and refusing invitations. e.g. Je ne peux pas sortir ce soir. Je dois me laver les cheveux
Activities: Talking about hobbies and sports e.g. Je joue au foot le dimanche. Tu fais de la peinture?
